Islanders rally to oppose the Queensland Government’s draft Moreton Bay Strategic Plan
In 1991, islanders rallied to oppose the Queensland Government’s draft Moreton Bay Strategic Plan that had ear-marked the Melaleuca Wetlands for residential development. Environmental organisation, Friends of Coochiemudlo Island, led the campaign to save the wetlands. It took a public meeting of more than 100 locals, media campaign and petition to see the Plan amended.
